I don’t think so, and hopefully Trump hasn’t rubbed off on you.

The bidding and tendering of construction projects is generally facilitated by architects, project managers, landscape architects, and engineers. As humans, we can sometimes get tempted to cross the line to help our friends and/or favorite contractors. Notwithstanding, it’s all with good intentions… Right?


As clients, it’s difficult to know for sure whether or not your consultants are colluding with bidders. I mean, they might have good reason to. Do they really want a bad contractor to get the job who will cause issues and be difficult to manage? Well, no. My point is, you should know about it.

This is what I propose:

  1. Start using bidding/tendering software that doesn’t allow any of the stakeholders to view pricing until the true bid/tender deadline.
  2. Keep bidders accountable to the submission deadline.
  3. If allowed to resubmit pricing or submit after the deadline, everyone should know about it.
  4. Discuss all concerns about poor contractors amongst yourselves after reviewing all the facts together and come up with the best solution for the client. This requires courage, but you can do it.
  5. Maintain integrity at all times and sleep well at night 😉
